If this is the same Dr. Martin I had for Math 141 in my first semester in 1997 this award is long overdue! I arrived at NC State a shy, unsure, timid girl and found myself in a math class that was over my head. And to make matters worse, I was surrounded by a bunch of confident males all with aspirations of becoming engineers. I was totally intimidated by my classmates and the subject matter. Dr. Martin spent so much extra time with me and was always willing to help out. He was never too busy, too tired, or too stressed. He not only helped me with math, but also took an interest in my life. Thoughout my time at NC State, Dr. Martin remembered my name from among the thousands of students and always took time to stop chat whenever our paths crossed. I ended up with an A in the class and I don't know how I would have done it without Dr. Martin. My fisrt semester at State was a challenging one. I was severely homesick and I don't know if I would have stayed in school if it weren't for people like him! Thanks Dr. Martin! You're a wonderful example and inspire me to help others. Your passion is onvious and your care for your students is rare. Congrats on the award! It is greatly deserved! Hope Kinsley Treece BS Science Education 2001
Each year, the Alumni Association honors 18 faculty members who have excelled in teaching, research and extension. We give them monetary awards and celebrate their achievements at a dinner held in their honor.
We would like to ask you to tell us why these faculty members are special to you. Perhaps they pointed you down a particular career path, developed your critical thinking skills or took the time to get you back on track in a particular discipline. Tell us your story!
