Congratulations Mertz-sensei! It was awesome having you as a teacher, you really deserve this award. You'll forever be a legend among the Japanese minor students.
Congratulations, Dr. Mertz! You were a great Japanese teacher for our class back in '96-'97. I'm very happy to see your name on the list of distinguished faculty. I had plenty of teachers through my 5 and 1/2 years at State, and so I can say with some authority that yours was among the most pleasant learning atmospheres one might get to enjoy at NC State.
Best wishes!! -Hill Yarborough (BA: English, 2001)
Each year, the Alumni Association honors 18 faculty members who have excelled in teaching, research and extension. We give them monetary awards and celebrate their achievements at a dinner held in their honor.
We would like to ask you to tell us why these faculty members are special to you. Perhaps they pointed you down a particular career path, developed your critical thinking skills or took the time to get you back on track in a particular discipline. Tell us your story!
